Several dogs died from toxic algae contact around Red Bud Isle and Lady Bird Lake in Austin. Brent Bellinger and the Austin Watershed Protection Department realized the issue stemmed from high levels of phosphorus in the water. This was leading to toxic cyanobacteria growth in the water, posing a risk to dogs and humans around Austin. Scott Smith of Aquatic Features, Inc. got involved and utilized phosphorus-locking technology to halt the toxic algae growth. Watch the video to hear more about these Heroes.
