Giant salvinia, a fast growing invasive with only one known predator—Brazil’s giant salvinia beetle—may have met its match. An extract from the plant itself that was being examined as a possible cancer-fighting agent has “successfully controlled the plants in various stages of growth,” according to Shiyou Li, director of NCPC at Stephen F. Austin State University.
