Invasive Control Moves Forward in Times Beach

NY- Lead by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Engineer Research and Development Center, the third year of multiple aquatic invasive plant species management at the Times Beach Nature Preserve has begun. While phragmites australis is their main concern--they have already removed 250 tons since the project began-- other invasives such as Japanese knotweed, common buckthorn and mugwort have been found at and removed from treatment sites. Due to the site’s importance to avian populations, the groups have been closely monitoring bird species present at Times Beach to insure they are not harmed during treatment.
