A Day in the Life with AquaTechnex LLC partnering with the State of California – Department of Water Resources to control nuisance cyanobacteria (Anabaena sp.) and taste and odor issues in Silverwood Lake.  This lake provides domestic water for an estimated 3 million residents in the Los Angeles region.  PAK® 27 Algaecide (NSF/ANSI Standard 60 Certified, OMRI listed), was selected based on documented effectiveness in selectively controlling cyanobacteria—the source of taste and odor compounds—and its positive environmental fate profile.  The application of PAK 27 was completed by AquaTechnex LLC over a 2-day period.

The results

• Nuisance algae populations remained low, > 90% decrease, from pre-treatment levels for over 2 weeks post-treatment.
• Geosmin decreased 56% 7 Days After Treatment (DAT) and further decreased to 98% below initial levels, 21 DAT.[p]

The day begins with an early morning walkthrough with all those involved with the application.




The lake was divided into 8 treatment zones to assure precise application and dosing of the prescribed concentration of PAK 27.
