Sydney, Australia – Phoslock Water Solutions Ltd. and SePRO Corporation today announced a marketing and development partnership for Phoslock® phosphorous absorbing technology in the United States of America.
Effective immediately, SePRO will become the national distributor for Phoslock, and will begin selling Phoslock products as early as this spring. Increased nutrient inputs into our nation’s waters (specifically phosphorus) have led to more rapid eutrophication in lakes, reservoirs, storm water retention ponds, and private ponds. Phoslock is a patented new technology that is fast emerging as a very effective phosphorus reducing solution. Phoslock is a lanthanum based, modified bentonite clay product which was developed by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) to significantly and safely reduce the amount of free phosphorous in the water column, and in the sediment pore water of a water body. Phoslock Water Solutions Ltd. out of Sydney, Australia owns the global rights to this Phoslock technology.
“SePRO Corporation sees great commercial opportunity for this environmentally beneficial Phoslock technology,” said Mr. Bryce McMillan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SePRO Corporation based out of Carmel, Indiana. “SePRO is committed to developing sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions and services for enhancing water quality,” said McMillan.
Lanthanum, a rare-earth element, has been recognized for years as being one of the most effective free phosphate binders in swimming pools and for drinking water purification. It was Australia’s CSIRO that invented the patented technology which binds the lanthanum ions tightly within the clay lattice of granulated bentonite, with the inactive lanthanum remaining bound, even in water, until a stronger chemical attraction to the soluble phosphates in the water causes the rapid formation of rhabdophane. Rhabdophane is a water insoluble mineral that quickly falls to the bottom of the water column to become an inert and natural part of the sediments.
“SePRO will be developing the technical and analytical services at our SePRO Research and Technology Campus (SRTC) that will be required to support the Phoslock technology,” said Dr. Tyler Koschnick, SePRO’s Director of Research and Regulatory Affairs. “SePRO’s R&D team is committed to discover and develop other new solutions for water quality management, and will be announcing additional new products in the near future,” added Koschnick.
“Partnering with SePRO’s Aquatic team is going to be a great fit for Phoslock,” said Eddie Edmunds, General Manager, North American Region of Phoslock Water Solutions Ltd. “SePRO’s network of Preferred Applicator companies are spread throughout the USA and maintain strong relationships with lake management consultants, lake associations, state and federal water body organizations, and aquatic management companies; the organizations that will benefit the most from the Phoslock technology,” added Edmunds.
